Eastside Road, March 11, 2010—
DOWN THE HILL to the neighbors' house for dinner. Eric grilled slices of polenta in the fireplace; Thérèse had already cooked big slices of ham Paolo had sent down from his place up in Laytonville. With the ham, red mustard greens that had sprouted up voluntarily in her garden; onions she'd sweet-soured with sour cherries; pickled crabapples from our tree. Tuscany meets Appalachia, you might say.Puligny-Montrachet, 2004
