Fish

Finale Pollina, May 27, 2010—
PROBABLY OUR LAST dinner in Sicily this year, one of the cheapest, certainly not the best but perfectly adequate. We settled here out of desperation, having driven across half the island in search of an agriturismo that had eluded telephone calls, e-mail, and internet searches. Oh well: the hotel's adequate and so, as I've already said, was dinner:
  • lettuce and tomato salad
  • grilled daurade
  • testo di turca ("Turk's head"): the one exotic item on the (spoken) menu, a sort of milk gelatin with a thin layer of cake inside and a thick coating of powdered cinnamon on top, strewn, unfortunately I thought, with candy dragees.
